Bonded Store - Car Park

Duxbury Projects were requested to manage a £685k project to clear an area of a Client’s site and create a hard-standing car park to allow the Client to hold and control the movement of approximately 350 bonded vehicles prior to shipment to dealers.

Duxbury Projects responsibilities included the management of;

• Demolition of numerous small structures, including air raid shelters.
• Excavation to formation depth (c650mm) and handling of contaminated ground material, not known at the time of contract commencement.
• Installation of new drainage system for the area to integrate with the site outfall, and capable of handling flash flood conditions as predicted in a separate report.
• Installation of a new area lighting scheme.
• Construction of new formation capable of HGV operations.

Despite the discovery of a significant volume of contaminated ground, the site was remediated and completed on budget, with appropriate changes to the design of works.

Delay due to the discovery, and subsequent management of disposal of the contaminated ground as special waste material, was contained to 2 weeks, although 50% of the site available for occupation on schedule.
