Production Line Equipment Duxbury Projects were selected to provide a team to manage the design and supply of special purpose facilities to a first tier OEM supplier within the automotive sector. This team comprised a full time Project Manager, a Site Manager for the installation and commissioning phases, and specialist design resource at various stages of the project. Duxbury’s project team were required to deliver both on-line and off-line production facilities, against tight deadlines made more demanding by the specialist nature of the online equipment, to the end-user Client. On-line equipment, with a value circa £2.5m, comprised two pieces of complex equipment, connected by semi-automatic handling equipment for calibration and maintenance purposes. Off-line equipment, with a value circa £3.0m, consisted of semi-automatic equipment/ facilities for; measuring and setting vehicle steering geometry, headlamp alignment and adaptive cruise control. These facilities were linked by handling equipment for calibration and maintenance purposes. The first on-line facility was delivered to the day, the facility being installed and commissioned in advance of the end-user’s production line start-up, the second machine being phased to be delivered and installed during pre-production to the end-user’s schedule – again this was completed successfully. After several weeks of full production the end user monitored the production line downtime over a period. The equipment provided was the only facility to achieve 100% up-time, despite it being one of the most complex facilities on the production line.
